Helping Women Get Back on their Feet:
Women Support Programme Phase 2

Rehabilitation Support for Women Headed Household

The Women Support Programme is part of Hisaar Foundation's Appeal for Rehabilitation of Earthquake Victims, which provided relief goods and services to women on a priority basis over the winter transition period of December 2005 - April 2006.

Currently, the programme is providing support for rehabilitation, including rebuilding of homes, livelihood support, nutritional and medical supplies, trauma counseling and help for injured women. Most of our current work is in remote villages (above the snowline) of the Suddan Gali and Rawal Gali areas of Azad Kashmir, and select areas in NWFP.

1. Rebuilding Homes

  • Continued support for shelter homes in the form of corrugated iron sheets and other materials. Priority given to women headed households.

  • Raising the issue of appropriate and adequate compensation for women headed households for the rebuilding of their homes at the Women’s Ministry and the National Commission for the Status of Women.

  • Lobbying with ERRA to provide appropriate assistance and compensation to women headed households.

2. Trauma Counseling

Support being provided in two different ways:

  • Direct counselling services to victims by trained cousellors through Aas Trust on an on-going basis.
  • Training of community health workers in “basic counselling skills” to enable them to provide better overall support to victims.

3. Helping Injured Women

Support for injured women to obtain evaluation, prosthetic support and after-care

4. Rebuilding Livelihoods

Livelihood support will be provided in the following areas:

  • Poultry
